1968 Pontiac Firebird
The first generation Firebird was Pontiac’s entry into the “pony car” market and incorporated Coke bottle styling similar to its sister car the Camaro. Firebirds also incorporated the front bumper into the styling of the front end and GTO-inspired “slit” rear tail lights. Gone were the vent windows present in 1967, replaced by a single pane of glass. Astro Ventilation – a fresh-air-inlet system also made its debut for the 1968 models. Other minor changes included Pontiac emblem badges being applied to the sides, federally-mandated side marker lights and turn signals that wrapped around the front edges of the vehicle. This particular bird is powered by the top-of-the-line 400 cu in V8 which was rebuilt approximately 2 years ago. A complete repaint was also done around the same time. Newly reupholstered seats and door panels are also present. The original transmission has been replaced by a 5-speed unit.
